National Tea Day (UK)

Share a cup of tea, and talk about what’s ever on your mind. Is what the national tea day website says. A promotional holiday/ mental health awareness day? It seems to be a rapidly growing recognized day in the UK with maybe tea houses, and hotels offering tea specials or free cups of tea in conjunction with charitable fundraising events. Lend an ear, talk with a friend over a cuppa tea.

International Milk Tea Dumpling Day

Again, I have no source for this other than wikipedia saying is began in 2019. But I’m including this one because I’m intrigued about eating the options.

The Mongolian dish Banshtai Tsai is translated as ‘milk tea with dumplings’, and is described as a hot salty tea with milk dumplings. And is the cure all comfort food for when you’re sick. In 2019 the dish was included in the UNESCO list of sustainable food recipes, giving the meal cultural protection.

I am somehow imagining this is where the wikipedia post came from? But it could all be random. Either way I wanted to try the meal. The closest Mongolian enclave to me is in Arlington, Virginia 5 hours away. I considered driving down for a day to get take out soup, but then reminded myself how I was doing a more relaxed version of food holidays this year, and I decided to celebrate with a milk tea and an order of dumplings for today. But as soon as I can get down there, I will try Banshtai Tsai!

World Trifle Day

I have no info on this, and no accreditation I can find other than wikipedia says it exists and it was founded in 2016. SInce I love trifle I’m celebrating! I like many types of trifle, but i’ve never made a British trifle with “jelly” (Jell-o) on the bottom. So i figured I’d use this day to cross that off my list.

Malbec World Day / Dia Mundial del Malbec (Argentina)

Founded in 2011 Malbe World Day was designated as April 17th to recognize the founding of the first agricultural school in Argentina in 1853 in the hopes of adapting French grapes to the soils of Mendoza. Over 75% of all Malbec grapes are grown in Argentina. The initiative to transform Agentina’s wine industry was tasked to Michel Aimé Pouget a French soil expert at the request of Domingo Faustino Sarmiento who later became the seventh president of Argentina. The Holiday was founded to promote Argentine food lifestyle and of course their wine internationally.

Here is more info on the holiday itself:

I celebrated Argentina not just with a Malbec for the holiday, but also a nice dinner of lomito completo, empanada, and flan de palta (avocado):

Espresso Italiano Day (Italy)

Falls on either the second or third Friday of April. (i’m unsure)

The holiday was created by the Italian Espresso National Institute in 2008 however their website has no mention of any festivities going on for this year, 2021.

Espresso is both the name of the beverage and the method for brewing the coffee. It’s not a type of bean. Espresso is coffee that’s brewed with a small amount of water under pressure through finely ground coffee bean which winds up producing a thicker brew with a higher concentration of caffeine. The espresso maker was patented by Angelo Moriondo in 1884 Turin, Italy.

Usually Orange, carrots also come in purple, white, red, yellow, and balck
