A parfait usually has whipped cream in it.  Weather it be dessert or breakfast, there is a light cream (sometimes substituted with yogurt) to compliment the other delicate flavors.  The key to making a parfait is the layers.  No mater what flavor, a parfait needs well defined layers.

A chocolate parfait could have layers of anything.  I kept mine simple and layer chocolate pudding (cozy shack brand), with graham cracker crumbs, and whipped cream.  Anything could be layered though.  Fruits, caramels/butterscotch, oats/nuts… the possibilities are endless.

Parfaits come from the French word for perfect.  The French dessert known as a parfait is slightly different than the parfait e are familiar with in America.  In France it is a frozen dessert made of sugar syrup, egg, and cream.  The cream part is what stuck in the American version.  Parfaits can be flavored with anything, fruit, gelatin, liqueurs… but for today we celebrate Chocolate!!
