Scallops are a bivalve mollusk that live in the ocean.  They come in 3 varieties: Sea scallops, bay scallops, and calico scallops.  They have a sweet delicate flavor, that usually is not too fishy.

The word scallop comes from the word escalope which is an old French word for shell.  Marco Polo brought scallops bake from a Chinese Market in 1280, and scallops were first seen on a menu in Paris in 1936.

The Baked Scallops I prepared were scallops cooked with wine wine for 4 minutes over the stove top.  Then mixed with onions and a thick sauce of the scallop juices.  Topped with bread crumb, it made for an excellent snack.
